About the client

Kiddoways is a marketplace where parents buy and sell pre-loved children's clothes, shoes and toys. Any registered user can become a seller, and buyers pay through the platform, which then settles with sellers. The first stage launched in the Netherlands, followed by Romania.

The visual identity and UX/UI design were created by the Develtio agency. Endora handled everything else: the Magento 2 implementation, all development, and then maintenance and growth of the platform.

Kiddoways home page: search, categories for clothes, shoes, accessories and toys, and the "Sell now" and "Shop now" buttons

The challenge

  • A C2C marketplace, not a store: Magento marketplace modules are designed for business sellers (B2C), while here private individuals sell a few items each and don't want to set up a "shop".
  • Money between buyer and seller: the buyer pays the platform, the platform takes a commission and pays the rest out to the seller, and handles refunds when needed.
  • Listing an item in a few steps: parents list items mostly from their phones, so the form, photos and delivery options have to work simply on mobile.
  • More markets: after the Netherlands the platform was to launch in Romania, with a different language, currency, payment providers and regulations.

What we did

  • A marketplace adapted to C2C: every user becomes a seller at registration, gets their own page with their collection and reviews, can switch on vacation mode and talk to buyers through messages on the product page. We blocked buying your own items and carts with products from several sellers at once, so each order has a single sender.
  • Payments, commissions and payouts: Stripe payments into the Kiddoways account, commission ranges and seller commission management, a balance tab, IBAN bank account and payout requests.
  • Listing and search: a product form with required fields and attribute sets (e.g. shoe size), photo uploads from iPhone and iPad with correct rotation, categories, brands, filters, sorting by newest, a mega menu, a wishlist and Facebook login.
  • Seller-side delivery: a custom shipping module with costs set by the seller and a pickup option.
  • A theme written from scratch, mobile-first: the whole frontend built from the ground up to Develtio's design, including account, order, payment and notification pages and email templates.
  • A second market: Romania: a separate instance with translations, currency conversion, PayU Romania and Netopia integrations, and the information required by the Romanian consumer protection authority (ANPC).
  • Deployment and maintenance: automated deployments to test, stage and production servers (GitLab CI/CD, Ansible), and after launch ongoing fixes, development and support.

Results

  • A fully functional C2C marketplace on Magento 2, launched in the Netherlands and then in Romania.
  • A 5.0 rating on Clutch from the Kiddoways founder (see the review on Clutch), including for code quality ("Quality of code was top!") and communication: weekly PM calls on progress.
  • Project budget according to Clutch: USD 10,000–49,999.
  • Ongoing support after launch: the client gets help with issues and questions, and the cooperation extended to another platform in a new market.
“ They have a lot of experience in building e‑commerce platforms. They're very serious, hardworking, responsive, and customer-oriented. We would definitely recommend them to anyone. We are already discussing the launch of a new platform in a new market. ”
